Temples in Mon neighborhood

A SIAM SOCIETY STUDY TRIP by Siamese Heritage Trust
A Study of Art and Architecture
of Buddhist Temples in Mon Neighborhood
Bangkrachao, Phra Pradeang

Saturyday, 26 August 2017
Leader: Khun Euayporn Kerdchouay
Senior Consultant of The Siam Society and SHT Committee Member

Phra Pradaeng or Muang Nakhon Khuean Khan was built in the reign of King Rama I with the purpose of being a major frontier of Rattanakosin. The major labor of building Nakhon Khuean Khan town was Mon people who migrated to Siam between 1773 and 1815. Today’s perception of Nakhon Khuen Khan or Phra Pradeang is the town of Mon people which have been well treated by the kings from the early Rattanakosin period until today. The beautiful royal temples with mural paintings and the conservation of ancient temples in this neighborhood is evidence of this small peaceful and lovely neighborhood.

Under the leadership of Khun Euayporn Kerdchouay, the Siam Society will arrange a study trip for members to visit beautiful Royal temples, such as Wat Prodket Chettharam and Wat Phaichayon Phon Sep. We will visit charming ancient temples which need urgent conservation, such as Wat Bangkrasorb and its museum, Wat Pa Ked, Wat Bang Nam Phueng Nok. We will talk about the conservation of the fading mural paintings and the decaying old Vihara and Ubosot.

The bus will depart from the Siam Society at 8.30 a.m. and we expect to return to the Siam Society on the same day at 6.00 p.m.
